This blog is a visual, on-line record of my art work and my personal research (guided simply by what I like) into art history and contemporary art.

Most of my paintings on display here are for sale. If you are interested in purchasing a work,
please e-mail me at hannahsjb@live.co.uk

Many of my works posted here are Digital Finger Paintings. For this reason the images have been watermarked. Please, no unauthorized reproductions: If you would like to use any of the images of my works that you see here (or elsewhere) please contact me, I am always happy to help if I can.

I hope that you enjoy this blog. If you would like to receive an email link to the new posts as they come on-line, just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Follow the Blog . (And don't forget to check the Archive, also at the bottom of the page, to see older posts with more pictures.)

For those who use Facebook, I am posting regular up-dates on my Facebook page: please do take a look, like and share the page (click on the image below to go straight to the page).

Finally, if you would like to read this blog in another language, please use the "translate / traduisez" tool in the left-hand column (under "contact me"), although I cannot guarantee the quality of the translation (I've already seen that the French translation "n'est pas terrible") it may help.

The Black Hat

The Black Hat
As the watermark text says, this is another Brushes App Digital Finger Painting. I've included this image in my entry to the Cork Street January Open Exhibition. Fingers crossed! Open exhibitions of this kind are always a great opportunity to show work but they are very competitive. To find out more about the Cork Street open exhibitions, click here:

Final Judging : the National Open Art Competition

(Above) "The Model in Her Red Lingerie"
This Brushes App digital finger painting has been selected for the final judging of the National Open Art Competition. There's no guarantee of course that it will be selected for the exhibition but I am very pleased to get this far in the competition. Fingers crossed, I will make it to the exhibition!

Sold !

Great news! The above paintings have all been sold at The Enid Lawson Gallery, which exhibits my work as part of a changing show of contemporary British art. Earlier this year the gallery moved to a new location in Great New Street, New Street Square, London. This is on the western side of the City, just off New Fetter Lane (north of Fleet Street). To find out more about the gallery and view some of its artists' works on-line, click on the image of The Silent Movie Star in the left hand column.

The paintings above are all mixed media on 100% cotton rag, acid-free paper.

Digital finger paintings are not copies of pre-existing works: they are original works (that can be multiple) produced using a digital media. I am currently printing only very limited Artist's Proofs of my Brushes paintings. I print the proofs on conservation grade paper and sign and title them by hand. The images published here on the blog are watermarked using the Winwatermark software; to find out more about this tool go to:

Miro's Girl and Olympia

A Brushes digital finger painting

This painting is a nod in the direction of Joan Miro. I really enjoyed seeing his sculpture entitled Jeune fille s'evadant in the gardens of the Maeght Institute near St Paul in France earlier this year.

I've not posted any new work for a few weeks: not because there isn't any work to post (there is!) but rather because I've been glued to the Tour de France, which I've been watching on French television thanks to satellite.

If like me your interests include art and cycling, you should check out the work of Toby Ward. Click here to find out more:
It's really good!

Another Digital Finger Painting produced using the Brushes App on iPad.
I print my Brushes paintings on archival paper to a fairly small format (22cm x 20cm, or there abouts).

The text in the bottom right hand corner of the painting is a watermark that I add to the digital image for publication on the blog. I use the Winwatermark app to do this. To find out more about this tool, click here:

Sensual and Voluptuous

(Above) Red Lingerie
June 2012
A Brushes App iPad Digital Finger Painting

If "sensual" is the gratification of the senses then art is sensual.
No wonder the female figure is so often the subject of art.
And if "voluptuous" is full of the delight or pleasure of the senses and conducive to sensual gratification, then colour can be voluptuous.

Holiday Sketches with Brushes

The blog posts have been rather rare of late as I have been away on holiday in the south of France. I've been staying in St Paul de Vence, near Nice, where the skies are blue and art abounds. The holiday was a chance to visit a lot of galleries with some wonderful collections and to see some glorious art (the Maeght Foundation at St Paul de Vence with the Miro Labyrinth and Miro stained glass, the Matisse Chapel at Vence, the Picasso Museum at Antibes, the Matisse museum in Nice). The return drive home through northern France also took us to the Matisse Museum at Cateau Cambrésis - another great collection. All very inspiring, as is the Brushes App, which I have recently acquired with a new iPad. Again, the holiday allowed time to try this new tool... already I am hooked. Here then are a few of my first sketches with Brushes.
